Smooth Green or Red Chile Sauce

Ingredients (Servings: 3-4 cups)

  • 2 Tbsp. butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth/stock
  • ½ cup Hatch Green Chile Powder or New Mexican Red Chile Powder
  • 2 tsp. Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. Honey or agave
  • 1/2 tsp. Cumin Seeds, Ground
  • 1/4 tsp. Roasted Granulated Garlic
  • 1 tsp. Mexican Oregano
  • Salt to taste

Steps

  • Heat pan on stovetop over medium high heat, add in oil or butter. Add onions and cook until translucent (5-7 minutes)
  • Add flour mix well and let cook for two minutes.
  • Add in chicken broth, Hatch Green Chile Powder/New Mexican Red Chile Powder, apple cider vinegar, honey or agave, Ground Cumin, Roasted Granulated Garlic, and Mexican Oregano. Mix to combine. Stir to dissolve and break up spices.
  • Let it come to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Salt to taste.
  • Use sauce immediately over your favorite dish and enjoy.
